See intro post for background.

Let’s get this show on the road, shall we? When I created the schedule, I wanted things to be somewhat practical in the way of logistics, so I split it into segments (like what the Cup Series does with the NASCAR Goes West stretch). In this case, we’ll kick things off with a slate of races in Florida.

Round 1: Daytona International Speedway

Good ol’ Daytona International Speedway. What better place to start our season and terrible experiment?

Technically, this is the Pepsi 400 so it’s a Saturday night race as a lead-in to the Daytona 500 the following day. Since this is Daytona in the early 2000s, I think we all know who’s going to win this.

  • Fastest qualifier (1 bonus point): Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  • Most laps led (3 bonus points): Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Round 2: Daytona 500

Ah, the Daytona 500. Feels weird for this to not be the season opener, but Riverside used to be the first race of the year. Fuck yeah, history!

Unlike the other 35 races, the 500 uses the Twins/Duels to set the grid, and this will be no exception. Luckily, SST also hands out points for heat races, though to the top 9; 9 cars is a weird number, but we’re keeping it to at least remain faithful to the SST points allocation as 9th gets 1 point. No, we’re not having most laps led points for the Duels.

Anakin Skywalker doesn’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

But what about the drivers in this simulation?

Not gonna lie, I’d rather have the real-life Daytona Roval than this infield course (mostly since I keep missing my braking points and flying into the sand/grass).

Rounds 7–8: Homestead-Miami Speedway Infield

After over 15 years of playing this game, I only just realized the Homestead used for this infield course is the 2002 layout. The banking is flat.
